MPA - Attractions

A review was carried out of the heritage attractions of Shropshire for the County Council. Their competitive position was assessed and recommendations made for priority investment areas to improve the county’s tourism profile.

Appointed by English Heritage, the MPA team completed a detailed options appraisal for Thetford Priory in Norfolk. The selected option was developed into a full business plan to support funding applications for a project of some £2.5m.

A development in MPA’s series of business planning guides for the tourist industry was the completion of a version for the visitor attractions sector for the Southern Tourist Board.

The Queen’s College, Oxford asked MPA for assistance in preparing the background for a business plan in support of refurbishment and development plans.

MPA reviewed the operation and marketing of attractions owned and operated by Rhondda, Cynon Taff Council. Recommendations were made as to where investment should be focused in order to raise the tourism profile of the County.

A business plan was prepared for the redevelopment of Ellesmere Market Hall as a comprehensive community facility incorporating Library, youth facilities, multi-use hall and meeting rooms.

A detailed competitive and operational review was carried out of Acton Scott Historic Working Farm, Shropshire CC’s prime heritage site. Recommendations were made for future development of the museum/attraction.

In conjunction with Deloitte and Touche Corporate Finance, MPA carried out a detailed analysis of the current and potential future market for Southend Pier as a basis for a future investment and regeneration plan.

MPA and Associate, Graham Barrow, were part of a wider team, under the leadership of conservation architects Donald Insall Associates, which assessed the future use of historic steelworks at Brymbo, near Wrexham. MPA’s role covered the assessment of the visitor appeal of an industrial heritage attraction at various levels of development and input to the selection of other possible uses for the historic buildings.

Working for the Aberglasney Gardens Trust, MPA prepared an options assessment covering a range of potential uses for the Coach House on the estate, including self-catering, functions, offices and residential.
